Abstract:
This thesis is focusing on the border between the United States and Mexico from its creation until the modern day. It explains how it radically changed from an unmarked boundary line easily crossed to a wall always under surveillance, full of agents.
This work describes the meaning of the border, its story and all the related problems: undocumented, young migrants, prostitution, drugs and weapons trafficking. After a definite analysis It answers the question “is the wall really working?” The project shows the wall does not work for any of the assumed benefits e.g. to stop undocumented, it does not solve any of the problems.
After a long research, reading books and newspapers, I can say that the border wall was the easiest choice but its real effectiveness it’s scarse. As long as the aliens follow the American Dream or Mexican labor is required in the US, people will cross the border. The solution could be the reduction of the large economical and social gap between the two countries. Then there will be no need of all the illegal but flourishing economy that exists around the US-Mexican wall.
