La provincia cosmopolita: la narrativa sindhi nel contesto letterario indo-persiano (sec. XVII-XIX)

Abstract

Tra il XVII ed il XIX secolo il Sindh ha conosciuto una notevole attività letteraria in lingua persiana che, finora, è stata analizzata in parte solo per quanto riguarda la produzione storiografica, mentre resta ancora da esaminare un immenso patrimonio letterario che rappresenta parte integrante della realtà culturale del passato di quest’area. La ricerca si è focalizzata sulla produzione dei masnawī che ripropongono i più importanti racconti tradizionali sindhī, mettendo in evidenza come le più antiche testimonianze scritte sul repertorio narrativo sindhī siano in lingua persiana. L’obiettivo della ricerca è di esaminare, attraverso l’analisi delle fonti letterarie indo-persiane prodotte in Sindh, l’importanza del genere letterario del masnawī non solo come fonte secondaria di reperimento di informazioni utili alla ricostruzione dell’ambiente socio-culturale del passato del Sindh, ma soprattutto come veicolo di diffusione ad ampio raggio di alcuni aspetti della tradizione propria del Sindh, rendendo quest’area del Subcontinente spesso considerata isolata una provincia dal carattere cosmopolita.

Between 17th and 19th century there was in Sindh a huge literary activity in Persian language which, till the present day, has been analyzed only for what concerns the historigraphical production. A great literary heritage has still to be examined and it represents an integrant part of the cultural environment of the past of this region. This research has focused on the composition of masnawīs which repropose the most important Sindhī traditional tales, pointing out the fact that the most ancient written evidence about the Sindhī narrative repertoire is in Persian language. The objective of this research is to examine, through the analysis of the Indo-Persian literary sources produced in Sindh, the importance of the masnawī literary genre not only as a secondary source for useful information about the reconstruction of the social and cultural environment of the past of Sindh, but also and most of all as a vehicle of a great spread of some aspects of the Sindhī proper tradition, rendering this area of the subcontinent often considered isolated a cosmopolitan province.
