The global goods and their impact on society, economy, and environment: Analysing the phenomenon from the Early Modern Age to the Contemporary Age

Abstract

The emergence of a range of global commodities during the Early Modern Age marks a significant turning point in human history, meaning the beginning of a dramatic shift in the spheres of society, economics, as well as environment. The subject matter under investigation in this scholarly paper, entitled "The Global Goods and Their Impact on Society, Economy, and Environment: An Analysis of the Phenomenon from the Early Modern Age to the Present," represents a prime example of the intricate dynamics between diverse cultures, technologies, and economies on a global level. The present study is organised in a manner that aims to provide the historical development and current significance of global products within the context of globalisation, aiming to provide insights into their complex ramifications with thorough examination of the global goods phenomenon. The advent of these global commodities during the Early Modern Era was not a fortuitous event, but rather a consequence of complex mechanisms including exploration, commerce, and intercultural interaction. This study aims to examine the historical trajectories of crucial products such as gold, sugar and cotton, tracing their roots in the Early Modern Age and analysing the contours of contemporary times global goods such as cobalt, crude oil and gold. In addition, I will explore the diverse impact of all these international commodities on society, analysing their role in shaping cultures and societies, including behavioural patterns. Concurrently, I will explore the economic ramifications, taking into account the significance of these goods within trade networks, their contribution to economic expansion, and their influence on global power dynamics. Through a meticulous examination of this phenomenon, our objective is to decipher the intricate connections of historical events and shed light on the ways in which these commodities have moulded our past and have ongoing impacts on our present as well. This research, in fact, aims at enhancing our understanding of the extensive impacts the above-mentioned goods produced in the social, the economic and the environmental spheres by considering their historical origins and recognising their relevance in the present-day context. Furthermore, I will assess the environmental ramifications thoroughly by highlighting the ecological impact resulting from the manufacturing, distribution, and consumption of such goods. The results of the research findings highlight the emergence of global commodities, namely: gold, sugar and cotton during the Early Modern Era and cobalt, crude oil and gold in contemporary times, established the foundation for the linked global society that we now live in.
