Abstract:
Leonardo da Vinci is a treasure in the period of Renaissance. His rigorous and creative thinking on art has greatly promoted the development of art in the world. As one of the greatest painters recognized in the world, Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings have a profound impact on future generations. So far, people have never stopped studying his artistic achievements.
Giuseppe di Napoli is a professor at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan. In the book Leonardo. Lo sguardo infinito, he analyzed the painting techniques used by Leonardo da Vinci in his works, as well as his research and thinking on art. Professor Giuseppe is not rigidly attached to appreciating specific paintings, and he also introduced and praised Da Vinci’s unique artistic vision and rational thinking. The book is divided into seven chapters, explaining Leonardo da Vinci’s artistic achievements from the perspective of linear perspective, light and shade, aesthetic perspective and so on. The author chose this book as a translation material in the hope of introducing Professor Giuseppe’s unique research direction on Leonardo da Vinci to Chinese readers.
The first half of the paper is the Chinese translation excerpted from the seventh Chapter of the book. It is divided into three sections, which describe Da Vinci’s painting technique of sfumato. The second half of the paper is the author’s analysis of her own Chinese translation, summarizing the problems encountered in the translation process, such as vocabulary, grammar and cultural differences between Chinese and Italian, and sharing the author’s personal views for exchange of opinions.
