dc.description.abstract This thesis analyzes the benefits and the feasibility of the application of conceptual frameworks coming from complexity science in managerial studies. Can complexity and management fruitfully cooperate? To answer such a question, it is necessary to provide first a general overview about what complexity means and how it is employed in different fields of studies. In order to circumscribe the wide field of complexity science, the thesis will then gradually focus specifically on the concepts of adaptation, evolution and genetic algorithms. After having provided a general definition and having clearly shown the link with complexity, the possible applications in managerial studies will be discussed. Different GA-based models will be taken into analysis in order to show how they can effectively support the understanding of some management dilemmas, such as the emergence of strategic groups and the dynamic of strategic interactions between companies. In the conclusion, some other interesting applications of complexity in management will be analysed for future research. it_IT
