Abstract:
With this thesis I aim to enrich my knowledge about Italian linguistics, especially the principles of syntax, in the process of practicing translation. The linguistic studies provide us a particular prospective to analyze a language and to deepen our knowledge about their essential characters. There are some properties that the languages from different language family have in common, such as the search for coherence and cohesion when composing a text, but generally speaking the various methods and strategies used to fufill this point distinguish them acutely. This thesis presents the translation from Italian to Chinese of the chapter ‘’Syntax and text’’ in the book Italian Linguistics by Massimo Palermo, which represents also the footstep of reflection in identifying the equivalent linguistic terms and catching their affinity and slight differences between these two languages. At the same time, the attainment in terms of languistics works back on the translation. Some linguistic phenomena that are found exclusively in Italian language constitute to some extent an obstacle for their configuration in the metatext, but they also turn out to be a key for the translation between Italian and Chinese language. In the part of translation comments, there is a detailed statement about the strategies used in the translation and it can also be seen as an analysis about the potential value of linguistics in the practice of translation.
