An analysis of Patrick McGrath's "Dr. Haggard's Disease" and "Julius". It features an overview of Patrick McGrath's life, works, influences and setting of the novels. For both "Dr. Haggard's Disease" and "Julius" there is an analysis of the main characters. Analysis of the main themes of "Dr. Haggard's Disease": medicine and addiction, Haggard and Fanny's relationship, Haggard and James' relationship and the historical setting of the novel. Analysis of Julius and Annie's relationship, Julius' madness and the historical setting of "Julius". There is also a comparison between the common themes of "Dr. Haggard's Disease" and "Julius": Edward Haggard and Julius Van Horn's madness, the relationship between Haggard and Fanny and Julius and Annie, the father-son relationship.
