Abstract:
The thesis will focus on the financing of International terrorism and on the response given by the International Community and different Regional Bodies to prevent this phenomenon. The three chapters will highlight different aspects, thus, the first chapter is a more historical one and it examines the creation of two terrorist organizations, namely Al Qaeda and Islamic State. The reference to Al Qaeda is necessary to understand the basis from which the Islamic State is born and to contextualize its ideologies and thoughts. Moreover, the chapter will take into consideration the Afghan and Syrian wars in the creation of the two organizations. The second and the third chapter, instead, will concentrate on the phenomenon of the international terrorism first, and then on its financing at the International level and at a Regional one. These parts will highlight the complexity of finding a proper definition of terrorism, investigating the main contrasts among countries, and the mechanisms used by the different terrorist organizations, in particular IS, to finance themselves. Moreover, the final part will underline the approaches and characteristics of the main Bodies and Institutions for combating the financing of terrorism, considering the results achieved and the main problems.
