Abstract:
The present work is a tentative analysis of the Role of the Republic of Korea in promoting peace and security in the Northeast Asia. The paper is divided into two parts. The first part, consisting of the four chapters, deals with the security issues in the Northeast Asian region, while the second part including two remaining chapters describes regional security scheme. In the first chapter I classify the various historical relations of North Korea with its neighboring countries: China, Japan, Russia and United States of America (USA). In the second chapter I describe the alliance between the Republic of Korea and USA in relation to the North Korea’s nuclear weapon. In the third chapter I analyze the relationship between China and USA, where the main emphasis is the Chinese rise and its impacts on the security relations between Northeast Asian states. In the fourth chapter I evaluate China-Japanese conflict on the security of Korean Peninsula. In the fifth chapter I underline the importance of regional organizations, namely Six Party Talks, Trans-Pacific Partnership and ASEAN Plus 3 and their role in promoting peace and security. In the last sixth chapter I examine the importance of the Republic of Korea as a security pivot in the Northeast Asian region.
