dc.description.abstract The Arab Spring and the political events that stemmed from what happened in 2011 have created interest about the role of the youth and the so-called "youth bulge" in the Arab societies. And while it is true that Arab societies are young, recent studies show that population is ageing rapidly. In most of the states of North Africa, welfare and retirement are not well distributed and the impact of ageing could heavily affect family, household relationship and the rest of the society. By looking into different surveys and censuses from 1990 to 2012 this work tries to understand the evolution of ageing, its effects on household structure and its composition and by doing so, it tries to underline the most significant problems that these societies could face in the near future. it_IT
