dc.description.abstract After the World WarⅡ, in the 1960s, the Italian journalist and writer Oriana Fallaci was dispatched to the mysterious oriental world to interview the women and their living conditions. Departing from Rome, she visited Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Japan and then she concluded her journey in New York. As an important part of society, women have been entitled to different significance in various countries. When Fallaci was very young, democracy and freedom were deeply rooted in her mind, however, during her visits in Asia, she found that not all people thought alike. Astonished, disappointed and even outraged by these women’s experiences and their mental condition, she wrote down what she saw and how she felt about them. This thesis is divided into 3 main chapters: the first chapter introduces Fallaci’s legendary life and the writing background of the useless sex; the second chapter is my translation of some selected pieces in the book which contain the social circumstances and characteristics, mentalities and living conditions of women in these 5 countries; the last chapter illustrates my observations on the translated part, the difficulties and how I solved them. This thesis, taking the lead in an analysis in her early works, would help the reader shed light upon her later works and writing style. it_IT
