dc.description.abstract Culture goes far beyond torture. A particular journey through the ancient rite of Female Genital Mutilation is presented to explain what is the essence of this practice, what are its consequences and the effects on the society. An excursus of different points of view is made to let the reader know what we are talking about. A further part about legislation is explained in order to present how governments deal with the issue and what they are doing, if they are doing something, to stop the barbaric tradition and to protect women of their countries. it_IT
