dc.description.abstract The aim of the thesis is to investigate what are the foundations and implications of the so-called Digital Transformation, a fast-paced phenomenon poised to revolutionise the way organisations arrange and conduct their business. In particular, we will analyse how Digital Transformation is influencing business models, organisational processes, people’s behaviours and, in general, the relations amongst the stakeholders of a company. In other terms, the essay wants to recognise and define the characteristics of a state-of-the-art Digital Organisation. Moreover, an insight about the role the IT department should play in such transformation will be provided. Our research will then concentrate on the analysis of Banca Mediolanum, an Italian multi-channel bank headquartered in Milan, that has already initiated an important path towards the digitalisation of services and processes, as well as of increased collaboration and transparency to build its digital culture. Digital Transformation is much more than just a renovation of technologies. The term Digital not only requires and incorporates in its definition an interaction between the technology and its user, but it also brings with it a culture of change that implies an organic transformation of the way people use to work and think about their contribution to the creation of value. The thesis is structured in two parts: Part I is devoted to present some theoretical frameworks and results of global researches in the field, while Part II deals with the Banca Mediolanum case study and describes the empirical results we have found in our research. it_IT
