Abstract:
The main purpose of my project is to identify how the innovation could be able to reshape and redesign the publishing industry worldwide. The innovation which i refer to is the service launched by companies like Kindle Unlimited, Youboox, Entitle and 24symbols. Those companies apply the features of what is called “Subscription Economy”. Thanks to the Subscription Model, companies are able to provide a service that allows people to have access to online libraries with hundreds of thousands ebooks. The overall analysis of publishing industy is led by the two main paradoxes this business has to cope with (innovation vs tradition and ownership vs access). There is even a space to creating a short comparative analysis with the “Spotify’s revolution” observed into music industry. The main purpose of thesis is analyse what will be the organizational and competitive evolution of publishing industry. Moreover, this work aims to finding answers to some important questions:
-How that innovation will force publishing companies to change their internal processes, practices and internal tasks?
-Will Indipendent libraries (as Libreria Acqua Alta in Venice) and franchised library chains (as Ubik) give way to that innovation?
-How that innovation will be able to meet and influence habits and preferences of readers?
-Will innovation be able to improve performance and profits of overall industry?
