dc.description.abstract The thesis starts from the analysis of the first talent management practices and their evolution. The first objective is studying the origins of talent management, trying to understand why the talent management practices of the last years have failed in most of the cases. Recent case studies and researches show that now it's time for a new approach to talent management, the time of the A performers is finished, and talent have won the war. Companies must adapt their culture structures and HR system not just in order to attract talent and retain the best talent, but also they have to became a fabric of talent increasing the performance of all employees. As talent is a so feeble topic a context of analysis have been individualized in the expatriates theory. This context have been chosen due to its particular features and to its future importance whit the progress of globalization. My objective is to demonstrate that talent management is not a wrong theory, but till now the approach have been wrong, now it's time for an holistic approach where companies are the most important talent entity. it_IT
