Abstract:
The area of interest in my thesis will be Literatures in English from the Middle Est, specifically I will focus my attention on the issue of exile as it emerges from the writings by contemporary writers Ahdaf Soueif, André Aciman, and Susan Abulhawa and I will develop my work into three sections.
In the first chapter, a general overview on British Mandate over Egypt and Palestine will be presented and this will be followed by an outline of the contemporary cultural phenomenons of anglophone Arab literature and anglophone Jewish literature.
In the second chapter, the issue of linguistic exile will be explored through different instances taken from fictional and non-fictional works, this condition will be widely discussed on sociological terms and concisely considered on sociolinguistic terms.
In the third chapter, the issue of exile will be considered in terms of family connections scattered around the world from generation to generation and of living unhomely lives.
