dc.description.abstract Latin America is one of most unequal regions in the globe. Gender based discrimination, poverty and violence are endemic problems that affect that society, in particular the most vulnerable groups, especially women. According to an official report of the Inter- American Court on Human Rights, Mexico is one of the countries with a higher rate of discrimination and inequality based on gender. On one hand the global economy has increased the number of women employed as workforce in the mexican labour market but on the other hand it has contributed to fuel discrimination against women. Mexican maquiladoras represent one of the contexts where women discrimination is perpetuated most because of massive female participation as workforce.Mexico has ratified and implemented different legal instruments, at a national, regional and international level to defende women rights, but the government does not fully respect its obligations to protect women’s rights. The role played by NGOs is important for the defence of such rights. The absence of the mexican State to promote their labour rights, urged women working in maquiladoras to ask for the cooperation of no governamental organisations. The presence of such organizations in the country is fundamental to denounce what happens whitin the maquiladoras plants against women, making pressure on the Mexican institutions to change this situation. Mexico has still a lot to do to reach satisfactory levels on human rights. it_IT
