dc.description.abstract Lai Shengchuan is a Taiwanese playwright and theater director. Since 1984, his over 30 original plays have continually pioneered the way toward new horizons in modern Chinese theatre. Seven of those plays belong to the Xiangsheng theatrical genre, a traditional Chinese genre, which Lai renewed and brought back to life. In the first three chapters of this thesis Lai’s opera is introduced, focusing on Xiangsheng. The fourth chapter presents the translation of one of Lai’s Xiangsheng plays: Total Woman, based on the performance which took place the days October 5th and 6th 2007 at the Exhibition Theatre of Beijing. The last chapter offers a detailed analyses of the translation. it_IT
