Abstract:
My final essay focuses on the events leading to the assignment to France of the territory of Haute-Roya at the end of the Second World War. After a historical contextualization of the facts, which aims to highlight how the Paris Peace Treaties in 1947 were just a ratification of the de facto annexation occurred immediately after the end of the war, the thesis examines the parliamentary debates held in both countries. The Socialist French Party stood out from the others because of its proposal to waive the territory in order to guarantee good relations between the two countries. On the contrary, Italian MPs, while condemning all together the cession of the Valley, they were divided between those who sought to continue the dialogue with the French Socialists in an attempt to prevent the annexation and those who pushed for a speedy ratification of the Treaty in order to reintegrate Italy into the international arena.
