dc.description.abstract |
My work is focused on the translation from Spanish into Italian of the Catalan author, Lluc Oliveras, which book is Confesiones de un gánster de Barcelona. It is a novel based on a true story, that’s why the title says “confesiones”, and the author narrates all the protagonist’s adventure with the typical colloquial language of 70’s and 80’s and, at the same time, reproduces the same emphasis and rhythm on the readers. The aim of the book is to make people understand all the consequences they could have if taking a wrong way and how they can get out from it.
In this work, we are going to see how important is the culture during the translation process because it influences the way of speaking of people and so, to better understand their way of thinking. That’s why the translator has a key role, because he has to transfer a message, not only from the linguistic side, but also from the culture one, as in the idiomatic expression field.
My thesis is divided into four chapters, in which the first one includes the translation part and its original text, in order to compare the two languages differences; the second part, instead, is dedicated to the author and his work, namely about his professional background and style of writing and about the kind of text and its goals. Furthermore, the third chapter is about the syntactical analysis of the translation, it means all the structural differences between the two languages, as word order and the contrast in the way of using verb tenses and prepositions; the last one, and the largest one too, includes a lexical analysis where slang and idiomatic expression are examined; here, there are practical examples and the solutions adopted by the translator, using the main translation techniques .
All this, is a summary about my work that has been characterized by constantly researches with the aim to reproduces in the best way, the same naturalness of the original text, as a real translator does. |
