Abstract:
In today’s rapidly evolving environment, museums face numerous challenges, with digital change being one of them. Consequently, embracing digital transformation has become crucial for museums to remain competitive and create value. This thesis presents an in-depth case study of the Kunsthalle Bielefeld, examining how the museum is managing the digital transformation. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, utilizing qualitative interviews and a digital maturity model to assess the museum's digital transformation, identify gaps, and evaluate the alignment of its digital strategy with the institution's mission. By analyzing the strengths and weaknesses in the museum’s digital practices, the thesis aims to provide actionable recommendations for developing a comprehensive digital strategy. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of digital transformation in cultural institutions and offer insights into how museums can effectively navigate and leverage digital technologies for sustainable development.
