Abstract:
As a sprawling and intricate form of music-drama, opera serves as a barometer for the developmental stage of performance art within a society. Despite the rapid advancements witnessed in other musical genres such as chamber music and orchestral performance, China's opera market remains relatively underdeveloped. Consequently, many discerning individuals have identified opera as an untapped opportunity, a "blue ocean" in the realm of the arts. Against the backdrop of a global decline in the opera market, China's opera scene has exhibited remarkable growth. This thesis delves into the dynamics of the opera market in China, particularly focusing on the innovative fusion of this traditional art form with contemporary influences. The first section provides an overview of the current state of the opera market in China, contextualizing its historical evolution. The second section presents empirical findings derived from significant trends and emerging movements within the opera scene, shedding light on the potential avenues for market development. The third and final section offers multifaceted analyses concerning the future trajectory of the opera market. By comprehensively understanding the historical development and key milestones of opera in China, this research endeavors to rejuvenate this traditional art form, infusing it with newfound relevance and vibrancy in the contemporary landscape.
