By delving into the specificities of the 59th International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia – The Milk of Dreams (2022) and its national pavilions, this study aims to provide insights into the different ways in which the ecofeminist movement has influenced contemporary art practices.
Ecofeminism, a theoretical framework that explores the intersections between feminism and environmentalism, has gained significant attention in recent years due to global environmental concerns and a growing recognition of gender inequalities. Therefore, through a comprehensive analysis of selected national pavilions exhibited at the Venice Biennale 2022, and an overview on past exhibitions organised worldwide, this study will explore the ways in which artists have engaged with ecofeminist themes, concepts, and methodologies. It will examine the incorporation of ecofeminist theories into the artistic discourse, the representation of gender and environmental issues, and the potential for generating social and political transformations.
The findings of this research aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between ecofeminist theory and contemporary art, shedding light on the potential of art as a catalyst for social and environmental change, offering valuable insights for artists, curators, scholars, and art enthusiasts interested in exploring the intersections of gender, ecology, and artistic expression. |
