Abstract:
The following dissertation aims to analyze direct investment in Hong Kong, with a particular focus on European investors. The introductory chapter provides a general definition of direct investments, analyzing the various types and the forms that they can adopt. Furthermore, I will present the economic situation in Hong Kong and analyze the main factors that attract foreign investors, such as a competitive tax system, free trade market, various bilateral and multilateral treaties, the legislative system and basic law, etc. In the following chapter, the commercial relationship between Hong Kong and the countries of the European Union is explored in depth, analyzing the various agreements that underlie and facilitate European foreign direct investments. Based on recent developments, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the National Security Law, a brief survey is conducted with the cooperation of specialized agencies to analyze whether the European foreign direct investment flow in Hong Kong has been negatively affected, or whether it has remained unchanged.
