Abstract:
Tannery sludge was used for the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) through treatment in six continuously stirred thermophilic reactors. The sludge was first subjected to a light thermal pre-treatment, and then zeolites were added (chabazite in the 2nd cycle and clinoptilolite in the 3rd cycle) in the acidification process to adsorb the chromium present in the sludge and the ammonia.
