Translation proposal and commentary of the EU-commissioned report "Ethnic minority and Roma women in Europe – a case for gender equality?"

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to present a translation proposal for the report “Ethnic minority and Roma women in Europe – A case for gender equality?”. This report was provided to the European Commission by the EGGSI Network of experts in gender equality, social inclusion, healthcare and long-term care. Chapter 1 will consist of an overview of the main translation theory taken into consideration for the translation process, along with definitions of the fundamental concepts considered in the translation studies. In chapter 2, the pre-translation analysis will be conducted taking into consideration the linguistic contextuality, literary intertextuality and sociocultural situation of both the source and target text. Chapter 3 will be constituted by the original text and its translation. Finally, the translation commentary, developed in chapter 4, will be carried out taking in account the translation approach illustrated in the first chapter and examples from the target text will be provided.
