Abstract:
In the context of the 'Hidden Cities' project, an itinerary through the city of Padova is suggested. Through the guide the user will experience the city as Fina Buzzaccarini, the wife of the Lord of Padova, did in the year 1372. A special focus is given to the historical background, from the female condition to the social situation in Padova during the period of the Da Carrara Signoria. Choosing a noble female character during the 14th Century allows a user to have a unique experience of the city, that goes beyond the traditional educational path.
Additionally, the paper will provide insight into the project 'Hidden Cities' and explore the advantages and disadvantages of using a locative digital app as a way to come in contact with the history of a city. While this type of media can easily be seen as a fascinating way to attract different audiences, special attention should be always given to finding a balance between actual historical facts and fictional elements.
In the end, this project aims to allow users to gain a deeper understanding of Padova. In order to achieve this, high importance was given to selecting proper facts regarding Fina Buzzaccarini and the society she lived in.
