Abstract:
The healthcare industry is undergoing a significant digital transformation accelerated by the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, although still lagging behind the emergence of new technologies. Healthcare professionals can benefit from the assistance of Digital Health technologies, which also improve outcomes across all stages of care delivery. This thesis investigates the Internet of Things (IoT) devices for remote patient monitoring and the major applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field, highlighting how these technologies can impact healthcare professions. The main challenges and regulations for health data governance and AI liability are also addressed. A case study is presented, which explores the potential implementation of vocal control in operating rooms employing Matter, the connectivity standard for smart homes, with the collaboration of a Venetian healthcare organization. In the emerging landscape healthcare professionals are called to play a central role in understanding and adopting technologies to evolve the entire healthcare system and bring benefit to the patient.
