dc.description.abstract |
The present work aims at identifying the English – Chinese terminography employed in the description of Multiple Myeloma (MM), a hematologic malignancy characterized by the proliferation and the accumulation of plasma cells in the bone marrow. This dissertation is addressed to interpreters and translators who work in the health field or in medical research as China and USA represent the two biggest research hubs around the world.
The dissertation will be threefold: in section one a general overview over Multiple Myeloma is provided. Pathogenesis, epidemiology, symptoms and staging, diagnostic procedure and tools, treatment options, and future directions in research will be described. This section will provide the reader with a general but complete knowledge about the illness and its peculiarities, and it aims to create the context for the terminographic section.
The second section consists in the terminographic repertoire, which is crafted following the SGML format. The terminographic cards are meant to be included into databases as MultiTerm which are employed in Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) software, as Trados® (developed by SDL MultiTerm). The last section is dedicated to the English – Chinese and Chinese – English glossary, which is meant to sum up the information provided by the terminology cards in section 2. |
