dc.description.abstract This research project focuses on how gender is represented and experienced in avatar-mediated virtual spaces. The goal is to explore how gender binary thinking is expressed and perpetuated in avatar-mediated environments and how this affects users' experiences. Through a survey, persons' perspectives on expressing gender identity through online avatars will be collected, including challenges and experiences. The study builds on existing literature on gender and technology, which explores the social construction of gender, the impact of technology on gender roles, and the potential for technology to promote gender diversity and inclusivity. By understanding how binary gender thinking is maintained and reinforced, this project aims to propose good practices for designing more inclusive and diverse online avatars. Additionally, the research aims to explore the potential of technology to challenge and subvert binary gender norms and create a more diverse and inclusive user experience. Ultimately, this project seeks to contribute to the ongoing discourse on gender and technology and make a valuable contribution to the field of digital public humanities.  it_IT
