Abstract:
The American Constitution established a federal democratic republic system of governance linked to an indivisible union of fifty independent States. Because each State regulates the education system, each one has its own unique characteristics and curriculum. This is partly because of how the United States came to be and the connection the land had with the old motherland. This thesis will therefore analyze the relation between the ancient homeland and its rebel colonies, especially in relation to the education system. In one hand the relation between the Pilgrim Fathers and the United Kingdom took to the creation of some of the best schools, but on the other hand many other problems related to the economy, ideology and politics arouse. This resulted in the use of different versions of the same textbook depending on the State in which they were used. This is why it has been determined that the United States is a nation full of contradictions; if its problematic past and connection with the mother country is not examined, it runs the risk of not being fully understood.
