This price at what cost? An extensive analysis of the Fast Fashion industry and the Cambodia case study

Abstract

This dissertation research will analyze the effects of the fast fashion industry in recent years. The garment industry is currently one of the biggest players in the global economy, contributing to the world GDP with a 2% share. However, this industry is also one of the most polluting, second only to the oil industry, held responsible for a wide variety of negative externalities, both in societal and environmental terms. After an introductory analysis of the nature of the industry and an extensive investigation of its impact, best practices at the business and legal levels will be presented. To give a real-world example of what the work will present, the case study of Cambodia will be explored. In the last section, the study will identify critical factors that businesses should consider when implementing eco-innovation and give some suggestions on how to efficiently combine sustainability and competitiveness to achieve a more sustainable future for the industry.
