This thesis focuses on the translation of the first three chapters of the Chinese horror novel "Moonlight", written by Gui gu nü. Gui gu nü is the pen name of the married couple Yu Yang and Yi Ming. They both have a degree in medicine, and now they live in the U.S. They began to write just for hobby and passion on blogs, and now they are known in China as the "Chinese Stephen King". Their novel "Moonlight" was published in 2005 and is considered as one of their masterpieces by readers and critics alike.
The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one provides detailed information about the authors and their works. The second chapter introduces the novel "Moonlight" against the background of this specific form of Chinese genre fiction, discussing in particular how the horror genre developed in China through the centuries. The third part focuses on the translation proposal of the first three chapters of the novel. The fourth and final part consists of a translation commentary analizing the problems that occurred during the translation process, and all the strategies adopted to solve them. |
