Abstract:
This study is a two fold research with Micro and Macro perspectives. From a micro lens, I investigate the Unmanaged risk of Environment, Social and Governance within the Tech industry consisting of sub industries such as Software and Services, Hardware Technology and Telecommunication. These industries are at the forefront of the digital transformation processes. Also, the macro approach investigate the sustainability indexes of the twenty-seven European member states, such as the; The Global Cyber security index, Sustainable Development Goal Index, Transition Performance Index. A relationship is established between the Digital Economy and Society Index and the aforementioned Sustainability Indexes over the timeframe of five years from 2017 to 2021 amongst European member states using regression analysis. There is no doubt that digital technologies have alter our daily routine and contributed significantly in the development of nations with positive impact on the economy, health, education sectors. However, the if the digital revolution does not take in to consideration our planetary boundaries its unsustainable aspect might outweigh the benefits derived from digital transformation. This study aim at raising awareness of the digital sustainability not limited to a carbon centric-approach.
