La Paisana Jacinta. Análisis de la parodia del español andino en la televisión peruana

Abstract

The purpose of this work is to investigate whether the linguistic phenomena that mark the Andean Spanish parodies in the Peruvian television match reality. In this respect, an episode of the Peruvian series La Paisana Jacinta was selected. The parodied linguistic features of the series were primarily compared to those which the linguists attribute to Peruvian Andean Spanish. The work is composed of three parts. In the first and second part respectively, a historical overview of Peru and the linguistic history of American Spanish, with a special focus on the Andean variety, and a list of the main phenomena of modern Peruvian Spanish, are presented. The third part provides firstly a theory section on the speaker’s perception in linguistic contact circumstances, and secondly, a brief overview of the linguistic parodies in the Spanish Golden Age literature and in the colonial and early republican Peruvian literature. Finally, the comparative analysis, referred to above, is presented. The analysis has revealed that the parodied linguistic features do not reflect reality and it may be assumed that the discrepancies are connected to phenomena regarding the perceptive process of external varieties, such as the development and persistence of linguistic stereotypes, and to the strategies traditionally used in linguistic parodies. However, in order to corroborate this hypothesis further studies are needed.
