Abstract:
The present thesis is a translation proposal of two medical articles which focus on the effects of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on the human psyche, especially on different strata of the population and on the medical personnel.
The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter consists of an introduction that provides an overview of pandemics throughout history and of their psychological effects, with particular reference to Covid-19.
The second chapter contains the translation proposal. Specifically, the first article presents a study conducted on a sample of the Chinese population, which includes different social classes and explains the various psychological effects caused by the outbreak of a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus. The second article carries out a similar investigation, but focuses on the staff of the Xiangya Hospital in Changsha City.
The third chapter consists of an analysis of the problems encountered and the strategies adopted during the translation process. The thesis includes a glossary of the technical terms found in the texts.
