Abstract:
Our planet is grappling with the effects produced by climate change and natural disasters are increasingly numerous and destructive: more than 12.000 extreme weather events occurred around the world between 1999 and 2018 with economic consequences of $ 3.54 trillion in losses. It is now more crucial than ever to define choices and concrete actions to face the consequences of climate change, organizing and spreading innovative forms of prevention and resilience. How? I will try to answer this question throughout an in-depth analysis of natural disasters linked to economic issues with a focus on the role of insurance in this specific branch of risk management, with the final purpose of defining a theoretical model which could be applied to Italy.
