dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT Translation and commentary of two articles on the translator’s methodological approaches in cross-cultural business negotiation This thesis is divided in three sections and is based on the translation of two academic articles focusing on the main aspects to which a translator should pay attention in cross-cultural business negotiation. The first section includes the translation of an academic article written by Yuanhu Xuejing which provides the translator with some guidelines to properly understand the speaker’s mind during a cross-cultural business negotiation. Therefore, the focus of the article is on appraisal theory and its functions, thanks to which the translator can achieve a clear and detailed translation, convey the speaker’s message, and facilitate its comprehension. The second section includes the translation of an academic article written by Yang Pan which explains the connection existing between domestication and foreignization through some practical examples of business negotiation. It also illustrates the proper way for the translator to use these two strategies in order to convey both the speaker’s message and the culture to which he/she belongs. With regards to this aspect, this section also illustrates the different values and negotiating practices of western and eastern cultures. In the third section, a linguistic and translational commentary analyzes the main difficulties faced during the translation process through the detailed analysis of selected excerpts from the source text. The conclusions explain to the reader the significance of this paper. In the final section, a glossary of the technical terms of the source text and a bibliography are also provided. it_IT
