Abstract:
In this thesis I wanted to deepen my knowledge of my local dialect: Genoese. In the first chapter I made a quite detailed analysis of the Genoese language from its real origin (Pre-Latin and Latin substratum), moving forward to Genoese during the Roman Empire arriving to our Modern Genoese, after having a look at it during the Middle Age and the Renaissance.
In the second chapter I deal with the Genoese from a grammatical, morphological, phonological point of you: here I deal with the main characteristics of this language focusing on those features that are different from Modern Italian.
In the third chapter I deal with a peculiarity of the Genoese language only spoken in a very small and quite isolated town in the internal heights of Liguria: Cicagna. I will both tell about previous analysis on the case and present the results I obtained from my personal investigation.
In the fourth and last chapter, making a link to what has been said in the previous chapter, I take into consideration the Italian Left and Right dislocation, making an overview of its use and its peculiarity.
