Abstract:
Data and information have always represented a critical issue on the organizations' decision-making process. The advent of Big Data and the related analytics technologies have significantly amplified the magnitude of this challenge. Using quality data to assume rational decisions and assuring information reliability to both internal and external users thus require new and considerable efforts to be made. I examined how the adoption of Business Intelligence has affected the way in which decisions are made and controls are performed in the current business environment. First, i introduced the main frameworks that have influenced the management control systems' literature. After that i defined Business Intelligence and how it is impacting many different areas inside organizations, including management control systems. Finally, i examined the case study of Octo Telematics regarding how it was able to create a business environment based on information and how the FP&A area was able to successfully implement a new BI tool.
