Abstract:
The role of the automotive suppliers is crucial in the development of powertrain components for cars. This dissertation aims to determine how the auto industry, and more specific - the Italian automotive industry, will change as a consequence to the shift towards electric mobility. Throughout the thesis, three main areas are discussed: product architecture, industry architecture, and lastly Italian auto supply chain. The first two areas of discussion represent an overview of the existing literature, whereas the last part constitutes a qualitative analysis of the Italian auto industry. Each topic is, furthermore, discussed considering three different scenarios: the past and the present - represented by conventional Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEVs), the present and the near future - represented by Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), and the future - represented by Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs).
