Abstract:
The dissertation is built to be a practical guide for tourism operators in the region of Veneto, with a focus on the sustainability of the industry in the long term. It contains an overview of the current situation, using the well-known technique of SWOT analysis in order to identify opportunities and threats, especially from the competency point of view, useful also to understand what kind of positioning the tourism is going through. This is then used as a starting point to study the legitimacy of productive processes, meaning that competitors’ plan of action can be analysed and then used to establish a long-term planning on investments and attitudes. In the last part then a model is proposed as a tool to evaluate the allocation of resources to rank the possibilities and then choose the most efficient one. The purpose of the whole work is to overcome the agency theory problems, dealing with the industry as a business and defining a key role for the public institutions to motivate the single operators in taking action for the entire community, not only by enforcing or incentivizing certain practices but also by making operators aware of the present and future benefits that certain decisions have.
