What is called the third industrial revolution, consists on the revolution that internet has brought to our life, enhancing its quality and also the quality of the services we all have at our disposal at any moments.
The main focus of this thesis is on the company point of view and in the ways they are using Internet and new technologies to improve their business. The first part of the thesis will provide a wide introduction on Big Data application at Business level, providing also some successful case studies highlighting how Data Analysis can improve Business Models and increases profits through it.
In the second part the analysis shifts from the whole enterprise point of view to a more specific one, to investigate how the massive amount of data can improve the manufacturing processes. Controlling systems and data flow analysis will be taking in consideration to give consistency to the introduction of Data Analysis into the organisations.
Finally, a more detailed business case will be presented: a deep analysis will be done about how one of the most profitable Italian companies is using Data Analysis to reach better efficiency and to maintain the production at optimal levels. The company is Luxottica, and the analysis will be focused on how they are going towards predictive maintenance through a massive installations of sensors on the machines and a more efficient and digital-driven systems to manage all those information. |
