Abstract:
This dissertation stems from the historical and literary curiosity aroused by the novella that has been recently attributed to Walt Whitman. Entitled “Life and Adventures of Jack Engle: An Auto-Biography", the text has been unearthed after more than 160 years by doctoral student Zachary Turpin.
My work consists of two parts: I will start by presenting my translation of an excerpt from the novella and conclude with a general analysis.
